Yikes!

When we last updated you about our adoption efforts, we were rather despondent about the exponentially expanding wait time, even for expedited families. Uh...earlier today our adoption agency sent this (no, we are clearly not one of the lucky families):

This month the CCAA included four referrals for expedited families. They were all girls. These families were LID in January 2007 (The last expedited referrals involved LID [Log-in-date] of January 2006, and that was a couple of months ago.).

The CCAA continues to hold to their policy that the referral time frame for expedited families will be about 2 to 3 months less than the standard referral time frame (and currently, regular referrals are taking about 30 months, so this little form letter isn't exactly correct. But I'm not complaining, I'm panicking!!!). This time frame may lengthen in the future as the standard referral time frame also lengthens. Currently the referral time frame for expedited families is 18 months.

Can this really be true? Are there so few Chinese-American couples adopting from China that we could be fast-tracked by this much? Oh, we are sooooo not ready. I've gotta finish my damn D.M.!!!!!!

Man...I don't think I understood that. Does that mean 18 months?

We gotta sell this house!

I don't quite follow the numbers... does this mean you might have just an 18-month window from your LID? And when was that?

Well, we both apparently cannot read.

The emails from our adoption agency have said all along that expedited referrals are taking just a few months less than the regular ones (non-Chinese). So, when we saw that in one month's time only one week of referral dossiers were being completed, we just subtracted a few months (3-4) from that number and thought that we were in for a long, long, wait. Add to that the fact that in the four months since we've received our LID (4/29/08) there have been months during which no expedited referrals were granted. The results was that we were in a deep depression about our chances of being parents before the age of old as hell.

This month, we were notified that there were four expedited referrals, and that these families' LIDs were in January of 2007. Then I looked through old emails and found that the last time there were expedited referrals, their LIDs were in December of 2006. Okay, so we finally do the math, and see that expedited referrals are taking place about 11-12 months quicker than regular ones. So, this puts us on track for more like 18 months. Since 4 months have already passed, we suddenly realized that we have relatively little time left to prepare. It's a joyous yikes, but nevertheless, Yikes!

That's really cool though! We can have munchkins running around at about the same time...and be very bad influences on them, 'cause hey, why have kids if you can't be a bad influence?

Wow! That's exciting, but believe me, I understand the time crunch. Keith and I thought I couldn't have kids, so we, too were planning to adopt. We intended to adopt an older child and skip the whole baby thing altogether. That's all been thrown for a loop 'cause I am now 18 weeks pregnant. We kept it to ourselves until two weeks ago because the doctors originally gave me 50-50 odds of miscarrying. Now it looks like this is a go and we have maybe 5 months to prepare!

I still don't quite follow, however whatever gets the kiddies closer to you two is great. Here's hoping it will move faster than expected!
